A gracious manor house in the historic heart of Paarl. Situated in the Western Cape Winelands, about 45 minutes' drive from Cape Town and its international airport, Paarl is the ideal Winelands stay-over. Major routes lead to the neighboring towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Wellington.

There are 10 double en-suite rooms, all individually decorated with selected period pieces and 4 cozy bedrooms in "Die Stal", the original stables in the garden. The Kontreihuis a la Carte restaurant offers home-cooked food. It has a large patio for al fresco meals and braai's (BBQ's) in the garden. The luxuriant garden is set amongst ancient trees.

Zomerlust is the home of the tour operator, www.kontrei.co.za, the website you are currently visiting.
The Du Toit family, with the middle-daughter Annelize du Toit as manager, owns Zomerlust Gastehuis. The historical farm Zomerlust was bought by the Du Toit family in 1991. They are passionate about their heritage and restored the farm to its former grandeur to provide a sense of place accommodation for tourists emanating the local charm of Paarl.

Zomerlust dates back to the 18th century and was home to three generations of the well-known Paarl family of Abraham Pieter de Villiers.
The Zomerlust Estate has close historical ties with the Paarl Rock Brandy Cellar founded by Abraham Pieter de Villiers in 1856.
The original Paarl Wine and Brandy Company was situated across the road from the Gastehuis and legend has it that an underground pipe linked the maturation casks in the cellar to a tap in the house where guests were entertained in a grand style. This area has been restored as the ladies' bar Die Kraan where the tap takes center stage.
All the individually decorated rooms with period pieces follow this tradition and are named after brandies of yesteryear.
The Kontreihuis restaurant is in the old Waenhuis and Jam Room. It has a cellar atmosphere and is on the same level as Die Kraan. Soon Die Kraan will be the only place in the world where the old label Paarl Rock Superior Brandy will still be served.
Al fresco dining on the large patio is a popular pastime. Facilities include a braai (BBQ) and outside oven.
