Why Offer The Slow Food Experience Tour?

The purpose of the tour is to have an authentic experience based on the Slow Food concept of eco-gastronomy - a recognition of the strong connections between plate and planet.

Destinations are selected because they can produce a food experience which is good, clean and fair. The food eaten will taste good; it is produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and the food producers receive fair compensation for their work.

The connection between plate and planet is taken from a global to a local perspective and content by introducing the rich, indigenous knowledge of the "kontrei" (regional) approach to tourism in general but to food in particular.

Kontrei is described as:

A limited geographical area with unique characteristics due to its natural and cultural integrity and dynamics.

And Place is described as:

A chip of a Kontrei

The Purpose: Food, Diversity, enlightenment, sustainability... Is to have a travel experience of South Africa via its diversity of regions.

Selected hosts from the various regions will host and guide the guest in an enlightening way.

The theme is the diversity of regional, slow food- Kontreikos. Interacting and participating in the production and preparation thereof. Menu items may be the same at different destinations BUT different recipes by your hosts and different tastes of ingredients will see to authentic experiences. Hopefully it will result in the appreciation of food when enjoying the end product around the table in a convivial spirit.
