ITINERARY
Using Cape Town as Gateway, the tour starts in CapeTown in the Fairest Cape kontrei with 2 nights in the Bo Kaap. The route leads to the Klein Karoo, to Knysna in the Garden Route (Route 62), Swellendam and the Overberg kontrei and via the Southern tip of Africa to the Boland and back to Cape Town.
Day 1: Sunday 8 April 2012. Boland kontrei DBB
The tour group will assemble at a ****star guest house in the historic center of Paarl. Transfers from Cape Town International are included. Guests from nearby can park their vehicles safely at the guest house. Take time to settle in and get into a relaxed mood.
Take time to meet your guide and to be briefed on the itinerary. Included is a guided walkabout in Paarl in the historic center of the town around the guest house.
Dinner at an historic wine estate with local Boland food and wine from the estate.
Day 2 & 3: Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 April 2012. Fairest Cape Kontrei BB, refreshments and Lunch
Transfer to Cape Town. Accommodation - Charming
Cape Malay Cuisine, Bo- Kaap experiences set amongst Signal Hill backdrop, Cape Mountain Fynbos and a view on Table bay.
BO-KAAP (MALAY QUARTER) ITINERARY FOR 2 DAYS
DAY ONE
10.00AM - Walking tour starting in the Bo Kaap Museum and ending in a private home in the area for full spread lunch with live traditional music
4.00PM - At a private home, family of your guide. Demonstrates the mixing and baking a milk tart. Interact with the family and friends.
The milktart is served with stewed fruit. Tea is served.
7.30PM - Optional extra: Transfer to a Bo Kaap Restaurant for Dinner Buffet. (3 course meal)
9.00PM - Back to Lodge
DAY TWO
10.00AM - Transfer from accommodation to Bokaap Museum for a historical adventure into the food and culture of the Cape Malay. The group follows the cook from the spice shops to the butcher. After obtaining ingredients, the group will walk to a private home where they will go for a hands on lesson on how to cook a Malay Curry. Interact, participate and eat your prepared lunch.
1.00PM-7.30PM - Optional experinces to be paid for by our guests. Free time to shop and explore with local guide. Various options:
- African Jewel Factory, Coffee Shop (Local is Lekker). A hang out place for local youth.
- Abdia Da Costas home for Tea & Chats, the elementary school
7.30PM - Optional extra: Dinner at a traditional Cape Malay Restaurant (3 course meal and refreshments)
9.00PM - Back To Lodge.
Day 4 & 5: Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 April 2012. Klein Karoo kontrei DBB
From the high Mountains of the Boland to Laingsburg in the Koup Karoo to the Klein Karoo in Oudtshoorn through a "Poort" in the Swartberg Mountains.
Accommodation on a working ostrich farm and nature reserve - Champagne
All the meat used, comes from our own organic produced ostriches, springbok and sheep. Be enlightened on the local organic process by the owner and the chef on the farm! This includes the maximum use of own produced alfalfa sprouts in salads, herbs, pomegranates, quinces, figs, olives and wine.
Locally produced honey is used for cooking instead of cane sugar.
Late afternoon on day 4: Inclusive guided walkabout for indigenous flora to link up with meerkat(fauna) excursion during early morning on day 5.
Early morning experience on day 5: Early morning visit to a meerkat colony on the farm
Optional extras: Visit to the world famous Cango Caves and buying ostrich leather products

Day 6 & 7: Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April 2012. Knysna Garden Route kontrei. DBB
Drive via the Outeniqua Mountains down to the lush indigenous forests of the Garden Route. Stop start viewing en route. Arrive in Knysna.
Optional extra: Lunch: fresh oysters from the lake
Arrive at your Lodge - Champagne, on the banks of a river amongst mature indigenous trees on the river banks and abundant bird life, over 100 species have been identified from the Lodge.
Canoe on the river in front of the Lodge or hop onto a mountain bike and cycle at leisure up a dirt track into the hills beyond the Lodge.
Dinner: Inclusive is an interactive dinner cook demonstration/ participation at a distinguished local cooking school operating a permaculture experience.
Day 7:
Before and during breakfast, today's optional extra experiences with your guide and hosts.
Inclusive for the day is a visit to Featherbed Nature reserve with a 1 hour easy walk and lunch included
Dinner at the lodge.
Optional extra: Leisurely walk in the Knysna forest
Day 8 & 9: Sunday 15 and Monday 16 April 2012. Overberg kontrei. DBB
Take the N1 via George and Mossel Bay.
Optional extra: Lunch en route at Albertinia - a typical small town hotel where traditional food recipes stayed with the family over 2 generations. Participate in the history of the place and plate.
Visit to an aloe factory and introduction to aloe health products
Arrive late afternoon at your accommodation in Swellendam. Accommodation in a historic guest house - Charming
A walkabout includes a visit to a nearby pottery artist.
Traditional Overberg dinners with family recipes cooked by your hostess.
Day 9:
Guided walkabout in town and a nearby fynbos Nature Reserve.
Afternoon visit to a working farm or a nature reserve along the Breede River.
Day 10: Tuesday 17 April 2012. Boland kontrei DBB
Along the Overberg Whale Coast to Arniston.
Lunch with the women of the Arniston-Waenhuiskrans fishing community - VISSERMANS Lunch (Catch of the day) at Kassiesbaai
Visit the Southern tip of Africa and then travel along the coastal route via Kleinbaai, Gansbaai Hermanus and Gordon's Bay to Paarl Winelands in the Boland kontrei.
Stay again in a ****Guest House in the historic center of Paarl - Charming.
Learn about the founding and the development of the latest language from Africa - Afrikaans - when visiting the Afrikaans language monument on the slopes of Paarl Mountain.
Farewell party. Enjoy Paarl Rock Brandy, a product of the previous owners of the house. Only produced specially and in limited quantities for your Zomerlust Gastehuis. Taste the wine of our own garagiste winemaker on the property while enjoying food from the house in a participating way.
Day 11: Wednesday 18 April 2012. Fairest Cape farewell
After breakfast, transfer to Cape Town International Airport to fly back home.
