Word of Mouth!
Recent testimonials from our visitors
Email from France
Hi! SA friends!
I am just a French historian preparing a paper to be read, next July, at PMB campus. Congratulation! You have a very nice and interesting website. It really makes one feel like catching the first aircraft and fly over!
I was last at Saldanha in 2002, when I read a paper at the Military/Navy Academy. I spent there a wonderfull day. I sincerely hope that your country (which, in my heart is also mine) goes better and better again.
Very kind regards.

Letter from London
"I can't express in words how wonderful our stay at Papkuilsfontein was. The only problem was the brevity of our stay, oh how i wished we had booked a whole week..!"

"I had a great time. Did far more than I planned which was no bad thing after such a long journey - it would've been a shame just to sit by the pool for a week! There was possibly too much planned and I'd like to have had more time to do the same amount of stuff, but that was my schedule not yours. The whale trip was the best..."

Savingnac de Versailles, Wellington, Boland

Experiences:
Buy At Source: Brandy
|
Savingnac de Versailles is a pot distilled brandy producer in Wellington, who has perfected cognac in Wellington on our farm, Versailles.
The perfected product is now called SAVINGNAC. Savingnac is South Africa's finest spirit, rare and rich, and completely natural.
|
|
In the late seventeenth century Huguenot farmers were drawn to the wild and beautiful Wellington valley by its fertile soils and cool streams. Pierre Cronier was the first owner of Versailles, and in 1688 he began to apply his Gallic flair and wine growing skills to shape the future of his land.
Versailles and the valley flourished and gained a reputation for fine wines and brandies that still endures today. Cultivated in the shadow of the Limietberg, and watered by its gentle rains, the vines yield grapes perfect for Savingnac. The farms along the river boast fine Cape farmsteads, rich in history and shaded by oaks under which tales are still told of the passion and romance of the early farmers' life.
Versailles is such a farm. Owners Roger and Dawn Jorgensen thrive on the rich history that connects the years. Their passion is to perfect the ancient art of distillation brought from Cognac to the valley by the settlers. Their secluded property in the heart of Wellington is dedicated solely to this passion. The result is Savingnac de Versailles.

1999 Savingnac De Versailles 5-Year-Old Brut De Fut
This special bottling is made from crisp Colombar, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc wines of the 1999 vintage and double distilled in the same year. The resulting spirit was cask matured for a guaranteed minimum of five years, thus acquiring the necessary smoothness and subtlety for a fine after-dinner brandy.
Only 360 specially monogrammed bottles were made, bottled dry, "brût du fût", directly from the cask. R175
1994 Savingnac 10: Special One-Cask Limited Edition Ten-Year-Old Brandy
The 10yo is a Limited Edition of only 340 individually numbered bottles from a single barrel for the connoisseur. This very special brandy is now available at R499.
The ultimate expression of the noble grape is displayed in this patiently matured brandy. After a ten-year sleep the fiery spirit has been tamed to amber perfection. Wave after wave of richness and complexity assault the senses: marmalade and molasses, cinnamon and clove, coffee and chocolate, hazelnut and nutmeg, old rose and raisin, all in a whiff: pure Savingnac, and nothing else.

Career farmer, winemaker and Savingnac creator, Roger Jorgensen, turned his hand to distillation in 1994. More than a decade of experience and valuable time with Cognac mentors Robert Leaute of Remy Martin and Buks Venter of KWV lead to ever increasing specialisation in the art of transforming wild young wines into perfect amber Savingnac de Versailles.
Roger now concentrates only on the distillation and preparation of the 5 and 10-year-old Savingnacs while the 20 year olds mature. Each release is hand crafted from a single cask and a single vintage. Each one is different, and each one is very special.
Dawn and Roger live on the tiny historic family farm, Versailles, in the heart of Wellington with their five children, numerous animals and rows of cobwebbed casks of maturing Savingnac.
