Hi! SA friends!
I am just a French historian preparing a paper to be read, next July, at PMB campus. Congratulation! You have a very nice and interesting website. It really makes one feel like catching the first aircraft and fly over!
I was last at Saldanha in 2002, when I read a paper at the Military/Navy Academy. I spent there a wonderfull day. I sincerely hope that your country (which, in my heart is also mine) goes better and better again.
Very kind regards.

Letter from London
"I can't express in words how wonderful our stay at Papkuilsfontein was. The only problem was the brevity of our stay, oh how i wished we had booked a whole week..!"

"I had a great time. Did far more than I planned which was no bad thing after such a long journey - it would've been a shame just to sit by the pool for a week! There was possibly too much planned and I'd like to have had more time to do the same amount of stuff, but that was my schedule not yours. The whale trip was the best..."

Current Vintages

Muratie Ansela van de Caab 2006

On the nose, typical cigar box flavours come through with underlying black fruit aromas. The Cabernet Franc binds the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot together to give you this well-integrated, typical Bordeaux blend.

The flavours and tannins are meticulously woven together to form a totally balanced wine that lingers on in your mouth long after the last drop is savoured.

Alc: 14.71 RS: 2.86 pH: 3.70 TA: 5.58

Muratie Shiraz 2006

2008 Michelangelo International Awards - Silver Medal
The wine is a deep intense red with a slight violet edge. Hedonistic deep berry fruit on the nose. Integrated spicy and smokiness surround the fruit beautifully. The palate shows huge amounts of ripe tannins which structure the wine and compliment the fruit. This adds a delicate balance which gives the wine longevity in the aftertaste.

Alc: 15.0 RS: 3.1 pH: 3.79 TA: 5.4

Muratie Isabella Chardonnay 2007

The wine has abundant citrus flavours on the nose whilst the wood supports the wine gently giving buttery smoothness on the palate.

Alc: 13.67 RS: 1.6 pH: 3.32 TA: 5.8

Muratie Pinot Noir 2006

Colour: Dark strawberry red, exceptional for Pinot Noir.
Nose: Fresh cherries, strawberries and mocha flavours
Palate: Good balance between the ripe fruit tannin and alcohol. The oak is integrated and supports the wine to ensure a delicate yet long finish.

Alc: 14.5 RS: 3.8 pH: 3.70 TA: 5.5

Muratie Cape Vintage Port 2006

Port affecionado's after dinner dream.

Alc: 20.0 RS: 96.5 pH: 4.01 TA: 4.9

Muratie Ronnie Melck Shiraz 2005

This wine shows typical black pepper flavours, a lot of savoury tones as well as some floral notes on the nose. These flavours follow through nicely in the pallet and the wine shows great depth. Layer upon layer is uncovered as you go from drinking this huge wine to enjoying its fabulous aftertaste.

Alc: 15.1 RS: 4.2 pH: 3.84 TA: 5.5

Muratie Merlot 2005

Colour: Deep, intensive ruby red to inky black.
Nose: A combination of plums and chocolate come to the fore followed by blackcurrant and dark chocolate on the palate.
Palate: The full, intense assortments of flavours provide a feast for the palate. The wine has lots of body, yet subtle with well integrated oak giving it a lasting finish.

Alc: 15 RS: 3.7 pH: 4.00 TA: 4.7

Muratie Melcks White 2008

Due to the ever increasing demand on our Melck's Red, we have been requested to find a sister for the Melck's Red, thus the maiden vintage of our Melck's White. Our intentions were to produce a wine that is fruity, light and accessible. Our Sauvignon Blanc is ideally served chilled on those hot, lazy summer days.

This wine is an everyday, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with crisp, tropical flavours and a zesty finish.

Alc: 13.23 RS: 3.9 pH: 3.43 TA: 6.8

Muratie Melcks Rosé 2008

A seductive and scintillating Rosé with fresh fruit and crisp acidity.

Alc: 13.5 RS: 2.8 pH: 3.38 TA: 5.4

Muratie Melcks Red 2006

2008 Veritas Awards - Silver Medal
The Melck's Red 2006 is a soft fruity, easy, and accessible red wine with good structured ripe tannins.

Alc: 14.65 RS: 2.8 pH: 3.75 TA: 5.2

Muratie Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Colour: Deep ruby with intensive centre.
Nose: Violets and mint mixed with layers of berries and hints of cedar-wood and typical cigar box.
Palate: Great balance and integration of fruit and oak. The wine has a strong mid palate and offers a full, lingering aftertaste. This wine has a great potential to age gracefully.

Alc: 15.5 RS: 4.4 pH: 4.0 TA: 4.7

Muratie Amber Forever 2008

Muratie's Amber was first produced by George Paul Canitz in the 1930's. The name Amber originated from both the colour of the product as well as the novel Forever Amber written by Kathleen Winsor in the 1920's. This novel is the story of a high class girl who kept some of the British upper class gentleman happy and content in the 1920's! Hence the quote by Canitz "To happy days and glorious nights, forever Amber".

Alc: 17.28 RS: 98.8 pH: 3.78 TA: 4.4

Muratie Cape Ruby

Intense colour with fruit cake, cinnamon and spices on the nose. Soft, elegant tannins and a long, lingering aftertaste.

Alc: 19.5 RS: 95.5 pH: 4.10 TA: 4.9

Historical Art Exhibition:

Art Exhibition of the well-known South African artist GP Canitz, who owned the Estate in the 1940's till 1950's. He trained in Paris in the early 1900's.
