Word of Mouth!
Recent testimonials from our visitors
Email from France
Hi! SA friends!
I am just a French historian preparing a paper to be read, next July, at PMB campus. Congratulation! You have a very nice and interesting website. It really makes one feel like catching the first aircraft and fly over!
I was last at Saldanha in 2002, when I read a paper at the Military/Navy Academy. I spent there a wonderfull day. I sincerely hope that your country (which, in my heart is also mine) goes better and better again.
Very kind regards.

Letter from London
"I can't express in words how wonderful our stay at Papkuilsfontein was. The only problem was the brevity of our stay, oh how i wished we had booked a whole week..!"

"I had a great time. Did far more than I planned which was no bad thing after such a long journey - it would've been a shame just to sit by the pool for a week! There was possibly too much planned and I'd like to have had more time to do the same amount of stuff, but that was my schedule not yours. The whale trip was the best..."

Many of our fans can remember coming here as a child to buy wine, and many comment on how little has changed in this peaceful place. However, one thing that has improved is the quality of the wine. Since I took over the running of the farm 4 years ago, we have paid specific attention to the condition of the vineyards, and the way we handle the grapes in the cellar. Take a look at the current John Platter Wine Guide and you will be amazed at our superb ratings.
During the latter part of the last century, the farm merely ticked over, but today, thanks to our dynamic team, Muratie is experiencing a renaissance. As the branches of the majestic oak tree creak above me, I am reminded of the man who planted it. His name was Lourens Campher, a German soldier stationed at the Castle at the Cape of Good Hope. He moved here in 1685 and was ordered to "bezaayen, beplanten, bepoten en betimmeren" by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel who officially granted him the land in 1699.
The history does serve as an inspiration to my family today as we look back and think of the incredible hardships these early settlers must have endured, and it inspires us to honour the traditions they started.
- Dr Rijk Melck, the current owner
