Hi! SA friends!
I am just a French historian preparing a paper to be read, next July, at PMB campus. Congratulation! You have a very nice and interesting website. It really makes one feel like catching the first aircraft and fly over!
I was last at Saldanha in 2002, when I read a paper at the Military/Navy Academy. I spent there a wonderfull day. I sincerely hope that your country (which, in my heart is also mine) goes better and better again.
Very kind regards.

"I had a great time. Did far more than I planned which was no bad thing after such a long journey - it would've been a shame just to sit by the pool for a week! There was possibly too much planned and I'd like to have had more time to do the same amount of stuff, but that was my schedule not yours. The whale trip was the best..."

Your hosts and owners of the farm, Hugo and Heidi van der Merwe, will do their utmost to make you part of their family. They invite you to share their exquisite accommodation on a working fruit and wine farm and will personally take you on tours on and around the farm, sharing their love for the land and their passion for the environment.

Heidi is closely involved with the strengthening of the cultural life of the local Coloured and Xhosa community and where she is accepted. Visitors have the opportunity of meeting the people she works with or to attend a church meeting in their environment.

Merwenstein Guest Farm is a family owned working fruit and wine farm. Here guests have the opportunity to experience farm life and walk on the farm guided by the farmer. The fruit harvest is from end November - May with fruit like peaches, plums and newly planted Persimmons. The orchards blossom from August - October. The Wine Cellar is within walking distance of the guesthouse. During harvest time the process of wine making can be followed from the picking of the grapes through to the filtration of the juice.

Hugo was born and grew up on the neighboring wine and fruit farm. After school he studied B.Sc. Agriculture at Stellenbosch University and then worked for 6 months on an apple farm in America.

Heidi was born and grew up in Namibia, and while looking up some relatives in Germany, she worked for a year on a wine farm in Windesheinm an der Nahe.
