A Visit to Merwenstein:
- a guided walk through plumtrees, vineyards, pommegranate and sharon fruit orchards to eucalyptus forest on the banks of the Breede River. Have a look out for paradise fly catchers - Heidi knows their nesting places...
- relaxing on patio in front of your room overlooking beautiful garden into the vineyards. Watch weaver birds building nests in the palm trees.
- swimming in the saltwater pool and dreaming away in our " sailor recliner..."
- a visit on the farm to see farm activities from harvesting to grafting of wines to planting of new orchards and if interested also a tour through the wine cellar.
Dinner is a family affair with wholesome home cooked food at the kitchen table. Many interesting conversations and a chance to make new friends.
Breakfast in the panorama room where the eyes go on holiday...
Join Heidi for a tour of Bonnievale, it includes:
- a visit to the Myrtle Rigg Church - the only church in the world built on the request of a child
- lunch at the Bonnie People Project, where up to 80 children from a disadvantaged community are being taken care of.
Breede River Goose is a river cruiser leaving from the farm but is operated by a neighbour of Merwenstein. R100 per person, minimum of R400 per trip. Must be booked in advance.
Book a hiking trip with Heidi into the Riviersonderend mountains and go for a natural slippery slide. R150 per person, picnic included
Experiences in a 40km radius:
Robertson wine route:
- Visit famous gardens at Van Loveren
- Have a picnick at Viljoensdrift
- Taste wine at Springfield
These three are just some of many wonderful wine estates on the Robertson Wine Route. The whole road is planted with Jacaranda trees, roses and kannas.
Do a game drive to see eland, springbok, oryx etc.
Walk through Kaktus farm where some plants are already over 50 years old
Visit the the bird tree in Montagu.
Buy dried fruit at Montagu dried fruit stall.
Do the tractor trip up the Langeberg Mountains
Visit Swellendam - the third oldest town in South Africa
Have lunch with Edwina at Stormsvlei where the menu is "take it - or leave it" Here also the oppurtunity to buy dried flowers
Join a Jemba drum circle with Conny at Stormsvlei. R500 per circle. She supplies the drums.
Golf - 8 km away from the nearest golf course
