PAARL, near Zomerlust Gastehuis - Picnic lovers can once again look forward to the popular full-moon picnics at the Taalmonument on Paarl Mountain starting at the beginning of October.
The first picnic is on Saturday 3 October, one day before the full moon, from 17:00 to 22:00. Sunset is at 18:50 and moonrise at 18:18. Full moon picnics are also being held on Saturday 31 October and Wednesday 2 December.
A total of 1 500 people attended these evening picnics during the previous summer season. According to Isabeau Botha, communication manager of Die Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument, these monthly events were supported well by locals as well as international visitors.
“Young and old enjoy the picnics, as the monument’s garden is a perfect picnic spot with panoramic views of the valley,” said Botha. “The view is spectacular during the day, as well as in the evening when all the lights at the monument are turned off.”
“These picnic events are affordable for families, as we allow visitors to bring their own picnic baskets and we only charge the normal entry fee. One can also create a basket to suit your pocket by selecting products from the picnic menu at VOLKSMOND, the new restaurant at the monument.”
Entrance fees are R12 for adults, R5 for students and R2 for children. For more information on the picnic menu, call 084 626 2815 or send an e-mail to volksmond@taalmuseum.co.za. No dogs and fires are allowed at the picnics and visitors are reminded to bring a torch.
