Word of Mouth!
Recent testimonials from our visitors
Email from France
Hi! SA friends!
I am just a French historian preparing a paper to be read, next July, at PMB campus. Congratulation! You have a very nice and interesting website. It really makes one feel like catching the first aircraft and fly over!
I was last at Saldanha in 2002, when I read a paper at the Military/Navy Academy. I spent there a wonderfull day. I sincerely hope that your country (which, in my heart is also mine) goes better and better again.
Very kind regards.

Letter from London
"I can't express in words how wonderful our stay at Papkuilsfontein was. The only problem was the brevity of our stay, oh how i wished we had booked a whole week..!"

"I had a great time. Did far more than I planned which was no bad thing after such a long journey - it would've been a shame just to sit by the pool for a week! There was possibly too much planned and I'd like to have had more time to do the same amount of stuff, but that was my schedule not yours. The whale trip was the best..."

Afternoon Game Drives: At Bartholomeus Klip end with sundowners in the veld: only an hour away from Cape Town, and you feel you are in Africa! The animals are easy to spot in the low-growing fynbos, especially since there are more than 500 head of game. Among the animal species to be spotted: eland, springbok, bontebok, wildebeest (both blue and black), gemsbok, red hartebeest, baboon, bat-eared fox, jackal, lynx, Cape fox and the leopard.
The nature reserve, with its characteristic fynbos and rare renosterveld vegetation, forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom. It has been declared a National Heritage Site in recognition of its importance as the last major habitat of the geometric tortoise, one of the world’s rarest reptiles.
The reserve in springtime is a flower heaven, with sheets of colour and a myriad of different bulbs, orchids and daisies to be discovered on closer inspection.
More than 160 species of birds have been identified, among them the endangered blue crane and the African fish eagle.
Farming at Bartholomeus Klip: Follow the farming cycle on one of the largest wheat and sheep farm in the Western Cape, with 6 000 acres under cultivation (wheat, oats, canola and clover pastures) and 4 000 wool sheep. Wheat is sown in the winter, and harvested in the early summer. Lambs are born in the autumn and the sheep shorn in the spring, when the nature reserve is starred with an ever-changing variety of wild flowers.
A stay at Bartholomeus Klip is a wonderful opportunity for the energetic, who can:
- Walk or hike in the reserve
- Ride mountain bikes through the wheatfields
- Go windsurfing, birdwatching or boating on the dam
- Inspect the farming operations
Fore the more laid-back, there are lounges in the extensive gardens, at the edge of the dam or on the deck of the saltwater pool: read, relax or even fall asleep.
Day trips for a maximum of 4 people can be arranged, including lunch and a game drive.
